The total budget for the project amounts to €806,280.00, including VAT, and its implementation was completed at the end of 2026.
The Project
The project’s objective is the digital preservation, documentation, and promotion of the ecclesiastical and cultural heritage of the Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida through modern digitization technologies and interactive presentation.
As part of the project’s implementation, the following were carried out:
- the 3D digitization of 15 religious monuments,
- the digital documentation and promotion of 62 relics of special historical, cultural, and religious value,
- the development of modern digital guided tours,
- the creation of 11 thematic religious itineraries and destinations,
- the development of comprehensive digital applications to showcase and highlight the cultural heritage of the Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida
A new way to explore religious heritage
Visitors can explore the monuments and artifacts while enjoying a modern, interactive, and multimedia touring experience, either remotely, online, or by visiting in person at the monuments by scanning the QR code in the tour app, or at the new Museum of Ecclesiastical Culture—Center for Research, Education, Documentation, and Digital Management of Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage of the Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida, which is located across from the Cultural and Administrative Center of the Holy Metropolis, on Agrafon Street.
The Museum welcomes school groups, organized tours, and individual visitors, offering them the opportunity to learn about the religious and cultural traditions of Fthiotida through modern digital technologies, such as interactive screens, 3D model display stations, virtual reality (VR) applications, and other specialized audiovisual equipment.
At the same time, as part of the visitor experience, specialized educational and informational activities are offered to showcase the digital cultural heritage using digital media. These activities contribute to promoting and highlighting the region’s cultural wealth, strengthening the open cultural role of the Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida, and creating value-added products for culture, education, and tourism.
The Value of the Project
The project substantially strengthens the protection, documentation, and preservation of the religious and cultural heritage of Fthiotida, showcasing its richness to a broad Greek and international audience.
At the same time, it creates a modern digital repository of knowledge, which offers researchers, scholars, educators, and citizens secure and immediate access to valuable historical and cultural material. This ensures the dissemination, utilization, and preservation of the ecclesiastical cultural heritage for future generations, by leveraging the opportunities offered by digital transformation.
