From the Diocese of 1833 to the Modern Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida
The historical course of the Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida is a living reflection of modern Greek history. Closely connected with the birth and development of the modern Greek State, its journey reflects the struggles, administrative changes, and spiritual unity of Roumeli.
Through successive administrative changes, the local Church evolved from a newly established diocese into the strong spiritual and social center we know today. The Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida is one of the most historic and spiritually significant pillars of the Church of Greece.
