The Holy Church of Panagia Despoina is a parish church near the Castle of Lamia. It was built in 1730 on the site of an earlier church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, which is said to have been destroyed by the Ottomans in reprisal for the revolt of the armatoloi (irregular militia) of Hypati. The carved woodwork of the church is particularly notable, with inlaid ivory elements. Architectural members and sculptures from a Byzantine church survive in the church grounds.
